I’m 0/3 on Autozone tire gauges. I’ve bought two of the basic Slime digital gauges, and one “Elite” gauge. Each basic Slime gauge lost the sealing piece to keep air in; whenever I put it on the valve, air comes out. And the “Elite” gauge does not read anything, even after a battery swap. So I figured I’d reach out to all of you for recommendations.
Toby for your time.

I picked this one up last year. Have probably used it 50 times in the past year with no issues. I always keep a mechanical gauge in the glovebox too as a backup.

I have the cheap Walmart gauge that’s like $1

I prefer the dial-type gauges . My Slime has been going strong for a few years but I think they may have discontinued it.

I have a Moroso and I love it. I think it’s this one: https://www.amazon.com/Moroso-89560-Tire-Pressure-Gauge/dp/B000COS8FI/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=moroso+tire+pressure+gauge&qid=1573159490&s=automotive&sr=1-3
Mine is not the “peak and hold” meaning as soon as I remove it from the valve stem the gauge reverts to zero (some hold the highest pressure reading until you push the release air button).
There are a few negative reviews on Amazon but most are good and I’ve been super happy with mine.

Accutire never let me down. U sed to have an older version but left it on the bumper and never seen it again :(

You know what never runs out of batteries or stops working?
A regular-ass tire guage. I got one i pulled out of the garbage for free and it works fine.

Damn that's a long link. I got one similar to this but mine was about 30 bucks. Liquid filled or go home.

I like the hardier/sort of mid-market slide gauges. In other words, not the nearly-free plastic case ones, but ones with a little solidity to them.
One nice feature is that it holds the measurement so you can hold it to the light if you’re checking tires in the dark.

I have an analog slime gauge from Walmart, seems to be working well for the ast year or so

Huh, the red version comes with four valve caps!

Those two in the link only go up to 40 PSI, but I’ll shop around for liquid filled gauges. Thanks!

I use a cheap dial gage, and it’s great. If I ever replace it, I’ll get one with the little release button so I don’t have to hold it on the stem to get a reading.

Don’t be me and spend $50 at Lordco on a supposedly calibrated analog gauge only to later learn it is in fact wildly inaccurate.

I have the slightly fancier version . According to my Amazon order history I bought it 8 years ago, and it still works fine. The only thing is the big round button with the on/off symbol on it is for the flashlight, and the SET button is the one you need to press to turn it on to check pressure.

Oops well that’s not helpful was it.
I once ruined a set of tires by using a cheap mechanical gauge that read way under. Never again.

Yeah, that “elite” slime gauge was $20, and took a dump on me after 3 months.

The best one I had...I made from parts purchased from a specialist shop . Liquid filled pressure gauge, short piece of quarter inch pressure hose with two fittings and a tyre inflation head. Still cost me less than AU $30...

. Works great.

I’ll grab another eventually, hopefully with better luck, but currently just go by the TPMS .

What you need is a solid, Soviet engineered tire pressure gauge:

This is basically what I got after I had a couple of cheap digital ones that stopped working after a month or two..

I use this:
and have yet to go flying over a curb for being .5 PSI off…

I just use the one built in to my tire inflator. This one, but I certainly don’t think you should pay $50 for it:

The batteries in the gauge died ages ago and I’ve been too lazy to replace them , because it pulls power from the car when plugged in.

I’ve got a RYOBI air inflator, and the gauge on it is 6-8 PSI off. Inflates well, but can’t rely on the gauge

That’s annoying. I wouldn’t use this as a piece of lab equipment, but I’m pretty sure it’s much more accurate than that (I’ve never done a comparison but readings look good after shops have worked on the wheels/tires, and they presumably have accurate gauges).

https://www.amazon.com/Longacre-Standard-Tire-Gauge-0-60/dp/B0057UJYDC?ref_=ast_bbp_dp
Pick up the Longacre gauge of your choice and join all the cool kids in the paddock. Accurate enough , not outrageously priced and will last longer than the car you’re checking tire pressures on .

I use a Longacre Gauge.

My uncle bought me something very similar to this many years ago, its brass but isn’t a Snap-On . That and an old Schwinn high-pressure pencil gauge are my 2 go-to pressure measuring devices. I’m old so I like old stuff anyway.

I bought the second-cheapest tire gauge I saw on the rack at Wal-Mart. It’s worked fine for years. I’ve never compared it to a fancy one, but its reading has matched the TPMS in two different cars now so it’s probably good enough for regular car owners .
I originally bought the cheapest tire gauge on the rack at Wal-Mart, and it worked fine until I dropped it once too often. That’s why I stepped up to the second-cheapest.

I bought this A ccutire one that came up on Kinja Deals once upon a time, it’s been great.

I’ve never had good luck with the digital ones lasting. Meanwhile in my dads garage there are a couple of these from 90s.

I still check mine with a analog gauge as my winter rpms all read 4-5 psi higher than what they really are.
